I’ve always loved to cook, and began experimenting with allergy-friendly cooking when my children were young, due to food intolerances and health issues. I began my blog in 2008 as a place to share my recipes and tips for healthy cooking, especially for those with dietary challenges. My best-selling first cookbook, Quirky Cooking, was published by Thermomix in Australia in May 2014.

Not long after my first book was released, my then 13-year-old son was diagnosed with severe OCD, anxiety and depression. (You can read Isaac’s story here.) Our family embarked on the GAPS protocol to work on healing the gut issues associated with his mental health, and we very quickly saw great improvements, not only in Isaac’s health, but in all of us. Isaac is now well and happy, and I am excited to include many of the delicious, gut-healing recipes that helped to heal our family in our new cookbook.

We want Life-Changing Food to be your favourite cookbook ever; the one that will help you on your own health journey and the one that you will be excited to share with the loved ones whose health you care about. The recipes we’re creating are absolutely amazing, and even those family members and friends who have never eaten with any sort of restriction and may be sceptical of the power of wholefoods will love them!

For almost our entire lives, Jo and I have battled many health issues. My own began as a child and continued until I was 30. I was constantly taking medication, using steroid creams and antibiotics on a yearly basis and battling obesity and pre-diabetes. I saw many doctors and was told that my conditions were incurable and would require constant medication throughout my life. As a new father, I experienced a lot of stress and anxiety, all stemming from my health issues.

When I finally discovered the Paleo diet in 2011, I was able to reverse those “incurable” diseases my doctors had told me to continue to medicate. I also lost 28 kilos within the space of a year. I became a new man, and it was all due to what I ate.

I know how it feels to be sick, but I also know that for many of us, the path to health can be found through food. This is why I started two successful pop-up wholefood restaurants (Chic Pea and Baraka) – I wanted to share healthy eating with as many people as I could. I wanted people’s lives to transform for the better, as mine had. I wanted others to know that it’s not as difficult as the world makes it seem.

Jo and I are old friends and have witnessed each other’s remarkable journeys of returning to health. When she asked me to join her to write this book, I was so convinced that this was my opportunity to help as many people as possible gain their health, that I dropped everything I was doing and dedicated myself to this project.
